DES in Fallon County are professionals responsible for preparing for, responding to, mitigating, and recovering from emergencies and disasters across all levels of government and sectors.
Core Responsibilities
1. Preparedness
They develop and maintain Emergency Operations Plans (EOPs), continuity plans, and standard operating procedures to ensure communities can respond effectively before an incident occurs Montana Disaster and Emergency Services. This includes hazard assessments, training, drills, and public education.
2. Mitigation
They work to reduce the impact of disasters through measures like infrastructure improvements, land-use planning, and hazard reduction programs.
3. Response
During an emergency or disaster, they coordinate multi-jurisdictional response efforts to protect lives and property, support first responders, and manage resources. This can involve activating emergency operations centers, mobilizing personnel, and ensuring communication networks are functional.
4. Recovery
After the immediate crisis, they lead recovery activities to restore services, infrastructure, and community stability, often coordinating with federal and state agencies for financial assistance
