Regular Meeting – February 25, 2025 – Baker Senior Center

The February meeting of Fallon County Council on Aging was called to order by vice president, Alice Kay Schweigert. Newly appointed board member, Debra Klos, was welcomed. Eight members were present: Rose Straub, Alice Kay Schweigert, Lyle Neary, Erna Greenlee, Bonnie Newberry, Nikki Verke, Tom Kendall, and Debra Klos. Also present was Carla Brown, Council on Aging Director and Marci Breitbach, Council on Aging Administrative Assistant.

There being no additions or corrections noted for the August 27, 2024 meeting, Nikki Verke made a motion to approve the minutes. Bonnie Newberry seconded. Motion carried.

ACTING AS THE TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM LEAD AGENCY . . .

A final review of the MDT Transit 5311 Operating Grant for FY2026 was accomplished. Carla stated that the grant is due March 3, 2025.

Debra Klos made a motion to approve the FY2026 Coordination Plan. Erna Greenlee seconded. Motion carried.

Carla updated everyone on the current staffing of the transportation program. Paula and Chelsea are the in-town bus drivers. We currently have six intermittent drivers who cover most of the out-of-town medical transportation trips. Carla and Marci are also considered to be transportation employees because they are able to control the motion of the vehicles.

OLD BUSINESS

Carla spoke briefly about the 2025 Medicare Part D open enrollment period which ended December 7, 2024. She stressed how important it is for individuals to check their coverage during each OEP.

Carla reported on the ownership transfers of the Baker and Plevna Senior Centers. The transfer process has been completed, and Fallon County is now the owner on record of both facilities.

Election of officers was held. Currently the office of President has been vacant due to the passing of Betty Mueller. Alice Kay Schweigert is Vice President.  Alice Kay nominated Susan Newell for President. Rose Straub made a motion to elect Susan Newell as President. Bonnie Newberry seconded. Motion carried. Erna Greenlee nominated and made a motion to elect Tom Kendall as Vice President. Nikki Verke seconded. Motion carried. Marci Breitbach, Council on Aging Administrative Assistant, will continue to provide secretarial services.

NEW BUSINESS

Marci shared that the next SAIL Fitness Program session is scheduled to begin on March 3, 2025.

A legal notice for solicitation of congregate and home delivered meals bids will be placed in the Fallon County Times in April. Bids received will be opened at our next regular board meeting.

The monthly activity logs for August through December of 2024, as well as January of 2025, were discussed at length.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

Carla reported on the usage of the Community Cupboard and how beneficial it is to our community.

Carla spoke about the commodity program. This program is both income and age based. We are currently capped at 15 clients and are unable to serve more than this number.

There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned.

A delicious lunch was served by Nikki Verke.
