About the Position and Department: The Fairgrounds Office Assistant is under the direct supervision of the Fairgrounds Manager. Will also receive direction from the Fallon County Fair Board. This is a full-time seasonal position. The Fallon County Fairgrounds provides a variety of events for our community, including the annual Fallon County Fair. This position requires working before and during the Fair; if available, may also work after the Fair.
Position Overview: This position will assist the Fairgrounds Manager in providing excellent customer service and support to the patrons and vendors of events at the Fairgrounds. Typical work will include but is not limited to answering phones, preparing correspondence, cleaning the office or other areas as needed, assisting vendors, directing customers and answering questions about parking, events and activities.

Required Education and Experience: Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.
Preferred Education and Experience: Previous experience in a clerical/secretarial setting is preferred.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications: Must possess or obtain a valid driver license within thirty (30) days of employment. This position may use County owned vehicles and/or equipment and is subject to a motor vehicle driving history review.

Job Overview
This seasonal position will assist the Fairgrounds Manager in providing excellent customer service and support to the patrons and vendors of events at the Fairgrounds. Typical work will include but is not limited to answering phones, preparing correspondence, cleaning the office or other areas as needed, assisting venders, directing customers and answering questions about parking, events and activities. This position will work in the Fairgrounds Office and various locations throughout the fairgrounds. Will work before and during the Fair. This position will receive direction from and respond to requests from the Fair Board.
The following essential functions are representative of typical work performed but is not necessarily limited to these specific tasks/areas.
Essential Functions
Office Support – Greets members of the public and visitors to the Fairgrounds; provides information and/or directs to appropriate persons. Performs clerical tasks such as answering telephones, preparing correspondence/mailings using various computer programs and issuing receipts. Enters exhibits into Fair specific software system. Assists with on-line ticket sales and reconciliation. Receives monies and complete receipts. Cleans the office or other areas as needed. Completes special projects and errands as needed.
Customer Service – Interacts with members of the public, event and fair patrons, exhibitors, venders and entertainment personnel by but not limited to answering questions about event schedules, directing patrons to venues. Assists the Fairgrounds Manager to ensure all event activities occur in an effective and professional timeline and manner.

This position requires significant organizational and clerical skills to assist the Fairgrounds Manager in preparation and execution of the County Fair and other events. Must possess strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Ability to learn and effectively utilize Fair specific software programs. Ability to accurately accept and count monies received as well as make change back to customers. Utilize a Point of Sale system, ensuring accurate accounting and distribution of tickets for various Fair events. Familiar with physical layout of fairgrounds, venders and exhibit halls. Willingness to work beyond routine and scheduled hours.
This position must communicate both orally and in writing accurately and effectively, utilizing appropriate grammar and spelling. Requires the ability and skill to multi-task, address multiple projects and customers while maintaining composure, professionalism and quality of work. Must listen actively and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand; explain rules and procedures clearly. Possess strong interpersonal skills and professionalism to effectively interact with a variety of personalities and demands of the public. Safety
Safety is a primary duty and a personal responsibility. County employees are responsible for reading, understanding and following safety rules and procedures as identified within County Policy, our Safety Program as well as at each department/work location/JSA. This position is responsible for wearing PPE as identified in the JSA or when working in areas where there is danger of injury. PPE may include but is not limited to hard hats, protective eye wear, ear protection and/or helmets. Responsible for wearing suitable work clothes as determined by the Fairgrounds Manager. Reports all injuries, hazards and/or near misses utilizing established reporting forms and procedures. Knows the location of first aid kits, fire extinguishers and other safety devices. Attends all safety meetings including annual training. This position will not perform potentially hazardous tasks or use any hazardous material until properly trained.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This position primarily performs work in the Fairgrounds Office; however, will complete tasks throughout the Fairgrounds. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, 10 key calculators, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Compensation
The starting wage for this position is $15.00 per hour. An experienced and returning seasonal office assistant will be paid on the following schedule:
2nd Year: $16.50 per hour
3rd Year: $18.00 per hour
Position Type/Hours of Work
This seasonal position will typically work thirty (30) hours per week through the end of July, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. August 1st through the Fair, this position will work forty (40) hours per week, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. During the Fair, this position will also work Saturday and/or Sunday. During the Fair, hours will exceed forty (40) and will be compensated at time and half for overtime. The specific schedule will be determined at the time of hire and is subject to the needs and demands of the Fairground activities.
Physical and Environmental Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk on uneven surfaces, sit, bend, and reach with hands and arms. May be required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. May be required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities include close and distant vision. Will work in a variety of weather conditions.
